Nigel’s background has always been in helping organisations improve in some way and he is an expert on the practical use of psychometric assessment to help organisation recruit, manage, develop and retain their staff more effectively.

Marston’s theory states that actions based upon emotions are an individual’s biosocial response to supportive or hostile social environments. These actions determine how the individual interacts with the environment. The way in which the individual interacts with the environment takes four basic directions: tendencies to dominate, influence, submit and comply, which forms the acronym ‘DISC’. Marston published his book ‘Emotions of Normal People’ in 1928, which described his theory of human consciousness, more commonly known as the ‘DISC’ theory. His theory stemmed from two schools of thought – physiological and psychoanalytic.

Module 2 gives a brief overview to Leadership and 360′s and what you can expect to find out there. (11 minutes)

SDI Follow-up

If you didn’t make the Strength Deployment Webinar on June 20th, here is a second chance.  I was so excited to find out about Tina Mertel’s book “Meaningful Coaching: SDI in Coaching” that I asked Tina to come and do a course on the SDI and the ICF Competencies as part of our Coaching To Mastery Program. While this won’t certify you in using the SDI it will give you 4 CCE hours of valuable self learning and skills around the model. You will get a copy of Tina’s book and will take the instrument as well.

The price has not been set but we are looking at a December date. For more information and check out the calendar, please sign up at:  http://www.CoachingToMastery.com

This is a great assessment and certainly cost effective to use with clients. Here is the direct link to Tina’s book so you can discover how your style  tends to “measure” up on the ICF competencies!

You don’t need to be SDI-certified to buy the book, or understand it:

Tina is a Master Facilitator and Senior Associate with Personal Strengths. In addition to these roles, she provides performance coaching, and is a presenter at international conferences including the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) and the International Society of Performance Improvement (ISPI). Tina has been in the performance development industry for 18 years. She is a Master Facilitator of the Strength Deployment Inventory (SDI) leading both the Level 1 and Level 2 SDI certification courses. In addition, she is certified in DISC, MBTI, and Situation Management Systems’ Positive Power and Influence (PPI) program.

Are You Comfortable Using 360 Degree Feedback?

If the answer is yes, then you don’t need to read more.  But if you are like many of the coaches I mentor, this is a big issue.  I probably get more questions on this topic than any other.  And usually my comment is that anything that can go wrong with using assessments while go exponentially wrong using a 360.  Up until now, I have been somewhat reluctant to really do any serious training on this topic.  However, the demand continues.

Leadership 360 Degree Webinar Series

Assess Yourself has access to a very nice, not to involved Leadership 360 that I think might be a great introduction to coaches.  So I have decided to develop and design a two session class that hopefully will demystify some of the stuff behind 360 degree feedback.

Here are some of the things we will cover in class one:

  • Learn the principles of providing a 360 to your clients.
  • Take the mystery and risks out.
  • Discover the proper steps of administering.
  • Learning to debriefing 360 degree assessments.
  • Overview of the different type of 360′s and the more popular ones.

OFFER CLOSED

In class two we will actually go through the Leadership 360 that I offer and debrief a real report. You will get a special link for you to use with a client whenever you desire and you will receive a copy of the report with the individual’s results.  Observer feedback will be built in over time and you will need to get an updated copy from your client unless you choose to work with me for the feedback.  This assessments retails to clients for $99 but for the same price, you will receive two webinars, notes, recordings to listen to AND a full Leadership 360 to use with one of your clients (or yourself).

Platinum Rule Refresher

This is a short 12 minute overview of the Platinum Rule and some of the benefits of my Assess Yourself Online Centre.

The main goal was to check out the new webinar system I am using. It was pretty simple but a good dry run is helpful. Worked great but I think that I recorded on too low a conversion and the visual is rather small and grainy… better luck next time. You have both the video/audio version and jus the audio recording. Perhaps I should have just posted the latter?

Quick Tip #11: What is the purpose of your assessment?

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the excitement of using our assessment, we may forget to be sure it is suitable for the client and his or her objectives.

I had forgotten that I had filmed this tip. It is the last video that I filmed from our beautiful backyard in Geneva.

Holiday Greetings and New Layout

You may have noticed a slightly cleaner look to the site. I also have a photo that I took of Stonehenge a few years ago. It was a rainy summer day and there were few visitors but I was still amazed to capture a shot when everyone was out of view.  I chose it not only because I like is so much but because while we may not fully know the intentions of the creators, Stonehenge was built to measure something. And that is what assessments do — they measure.

Happy Holiday Seasons to everyone and I hope for you a wonderful New Year.

Roberta

Help create the most comprehensive assessment networking community

I want this to be the go-to resource for professionals. And I need your help to do it. Over the past few months I have revamped the site and create resources that I would like and think others would too.  But really, am I on the right track?

What do YOU want?

  1. What is the one thing related to assessments that I could create just for you, and offer to the community at no charge?
  2. What is your biggest frustration when it comes to using assessments?
  3. What would have to happen to make you want to participate in this network regularly?

By the way, just by visiting the Forum you will get your first “badge” for participation!

Quick Tip #10: Dividing a Large Group up into “Style”

This is a fast and energizing way to get a group to separate into different sections.  The best part is it can be done on the fly – i.e. as you sort the group into “style” or “type” you can get them to go to their respective part of the room. It is best if you have four groups but I imagine it could be done with more but a little more creativity might be required.

I have successfully used this technique (with two “helpers) for a room with 250 people.
